WPL: Hat-trick of wins for MI, DC faces first lose

Mumbai Indians came up with another brilliant performance to thrash Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets at the DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai on Thursday. Mumbai consolidated its lead in the WPL points table with three big wins in the tournament's first three games.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led side gunned down the 106-run target in 15 overs to register an 8-wicket win in the seventh match of the WPL 2023. This was Delhi Capitals' first defeat in the WPL 2023 as the Meg Lanning-led side was completely outplayed in all departments by the table-toppers on Thursday.

Earlier, Saika Ishaque, Issy Wong, and Hayley Matthews bowled brilliant spells to help Mumbai Indians bowl out Delhi Capitals for a meager total of 105 in 18 overs. Matthews, Ishaque, and Wong all registered three-wicket hauls, while Pooja Vastrakar took one wicket. Meg Lanning was Delhi Capitals' highest run-scorer with 43, while Jemimah Rodrigues scored 25.

Ishaque struck first, dismissing opener Shafali Verma for 2 in the second over of the game. Alice Capsey then came out to bat, but she failed to score big, returning after scoring only 6 runs. Marizanne Kapp was dismissed for 2 runs by Issy Wong, who took her first wicket of the match. Jemimah Rodrigues then came out to bat and took charge, slamming 13 runs off Nat Sciver-over Brunt with three boundaries.

Lanning returned after scoring 43 runs, while Jonassen and Mani failed to reach double digits. Wong then dealt the Delhi Capitals a double blow in the 17th over, dismissing Taniya Bhatia for 4 and Radha Yadav for 10. Matthews took the final wicket of batter Tara Norris to help Mumbai Indians dismiss Delhi Capitals for 105 runs in 18 overs.
